Intrigued to hear how Rapids Jet got to where we are today? Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin!
1953: Our story starts. New Zealander Bill Hamilton invents the jet boat to traverse the fast-flowing and shallow waters of his native land. Whether he knows it or not, Bill has just designed what will go on to become a true New Zealand icon.
1993: Boat fanatic Vance Crozier proves to the authorities that he can safely take visitors out on the rapids in his jet boats. With the paperwork and safety guidelines all in place, Vance and his wife Mandy take the plunge and launch their new jet boat business. Rapids Jet is born!
1997: Vance expands the Rapids Jet site. He builds a new visitor centre and observation deck on the Department of Conservation Aratiatia Scenic Reserve, creating a wonderful gateway to our white-water wonderland.
2004: Rapids Jet is taken over by three Kiwis: Russell Poppe (Rusty), James Tazewell (Jimmy) and Garry Stephen (Gazza). They're pretty nice and they really love to jetboat!
2018: Today, jetboating is as popular as ever and Rusty, Jimmy and Gazza remain at the helm of Rapids Jet. They own it, run it and still find time to do what they love best: taking you out on the water every day and giving you the ride of your life!
