The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is New Zealand’s biggest Cycle event. Over 8000 riders each year pedaling their way around our great lake. Taupo goes crazy over this weekend, every bed is booked a year ahead, every Restaurant and Cafe is packed to the rafters. This is an exciting weekend and worth just coming to have a look. The facts
- Lake Taupo takes place every November
- First Cycle Challenge was held in 1977 with a whopping 26 Cyclists. 2016 will have around 8000 riders
- Cycle Challenge would not be possible without the help of a huge number of local volunteers
- 2016 will be the 40th anniversary of the Taupo Cycle Challenge
- The distance of the event is 160km. Can do as an individual or as a team
- Riders from around 20 countries come to New Zealand especially for this circumnavigation of Lake Taupo
- New options include Mountain Bike options in surrounding trails, 85km Huka Challenge, as well as 65km,35 km options
